     The call   (katniss)

It was the day we all dreaded….. The Reaping. Snow thinks that the Reaping should be a reminder that the Capitol is always in charge.

“Ugh, how do you live like this?” Glimmer says wrinkling her nose at the smell.

“We fend for ourselves….” I said blankly.

“Yeah, some of us have to find our own food.” says FoxFace. Glimmer just rolls her eyes.

“I call that TORTURE!!!!” Glimmer yells.

“Well of course you think so… you’ve never had to hunt. That's why in the 74th  hunger games  you were so bad with a bow…..” I  said.

“Humph…” Glimmer puffed.

We decided to eat at Greasy Sae's because I wanted to support her. I know I have like, all the food in the world, but she doesn't. So we go to her stall and order some beef stew. “Here you go.” she said, then in exchange, I gave her 2 squirrels.

We sat at a little wooden table and ate. Me and Foxy ate up our stew. Glimmer just stirred hers. She lifted her spoon to reveal a chunk of something.

“What is this?” Glimmer called out to Greasy Sae.

“Maybe beef.” Greasy Sae shrugged.

Me, Foxy, and Glimmer all lost our appetite. Actually, Glimmer lost hers quite a while ago. Like, when we entered District 12.

Then the TV buzzed to life and a picture captured the once black screen and transformed it into an image.

“Hello, this is President Snow. I have contacted you today because I would like to discuss the 4th Quarter Quell.”

Snow’s hair glowed silver and his smooth face (Work of makeup to hide wrinkles) smiled devilishly at the camera. His voice was crisp and fresh. He was like ice. Sleek and cool even though deep inside was fear of melting away out of existence. Hunger Games was the only thing that got anyone to listen.

“I thought Snow was doing a new thing?” I questioned.

“He will, after the 4th Quarter Quell.” answered FoxFace.

Snow continues, “This year, we will have 5 groups of allies from past Hunger Games and so some of my close peers have chosen Cato, Thresh, and Clove. Finnick Odair, Johanna Mason, and Beetee. Katniss Everdeen, Glimmer Belcourt, and FoxFace. Wiress, the morphlings, and Mags. Cashmere, Gale Hawthorne, and Peeta Mellark. These groups will train before we start the 4th Quarter Quell. We will have someone give you your tribute cards. Now start the training.”

Inky black devours Snow and the rest of the screen. It would be wonderful if the inky black actually devoured Snow. This video plays every hour on every TV screen in Panem. Guards walk the streets and anyone who steps out of line, just don’t do it.

If any players kill themselves then the rest of the players die and so do yours,  and the other tribute’s families. You are basically the reason for death for so many others. It makes you feel horrible and sick inside.

Snow forces cooperation. He doesn’t ask. He calls it “You lose a few and you get thousands.” He doesn’t believe in equality. He believes in power and fear. Kids walked in a few months and at five years old kids are doing chores around the house like sweeping and cleaning clothes.

We stood up to leave. Glimmer's face was green and FoxFaces eyes were darting back and forth. On the street, we saw Effie. Her hair was the color of limes and her dress was covered in dead leaves like autumn in an outfit.

“You're so lucky, children.” Effie gushed running over to us.

I rolled my eyes and walked over. She held out three white cards. Our tribute cards.

“Here are your cards darlings.” Effie said, handing us each a card.

Mine had a picture of me as well as my name, family, birthday, and a stamp that read, “Property Of Coriolanus Snow”. I gagged at the sentence. I was not a dog. I should be free for my own choices. And on the back, it said family: mother, deceased Father, Prim and Peeta. PEETA!

I hate him…”  I muttered under my breath.

“Who?” asked Foxy sweetly.

I didn’t answer.

“WHO?!!!” yelled Glimmer as she yanked my card away from me. she showed Foxy and they both giggled.

“I know deep inside you like him….” said Foxy leaning in with a sweet little grin that made me sick.

“I do not!” I said blushing.

“Off to the ceremony!” Effie insisted, leading us to the square. She too had been born and raised in the capitol and thought the hunger games was a celebration.

We sat on stools as Effie announced to every person in District 12 that we were the tributes, even though everyone already knew.

I noticed Glimmer. Her back was straight and her lips were pinched together. Her eyes were calm and fixed on the crowd as if they were nothing more than rags. She seemed confident.

Foxy was laughing as if this were hysterical. She rocked lightly on her chair and her smile looked weird. After all, We’re being sent to our deaths.

I sighed and as we left the ceremony we went over to my mom. I held her close and my tears streamed down my face. I held her terrified gaze before letting go of her hands.

“Stay alive .” my mother noted. Her voice was flat and stale as dry bread. Her voice was cracking around the edges. Once is enough for any mother to handle. If I die, I hope and won’t hurt her.

I embraced my mother once more before walking onto the train.

That has always been the way of Panem. We listen and work. We burn and shrivel until our job is done. We are like slaves who do not sing. We work in endless death, awaiting to see our kids get murdered in the Hunger Games. One day we will be free.

         The Training  (katniss)

“Great. We are so dead.” Glimmer snap’s coldly.

“We have a chance.” I reply.

“There’s nothing we can’t accomplish!” FoxFace squeal’s excited. Foxy wrap’s her arms around Glimmer in a hug.

Our personalities are extremely contrasting.

“You are just crazy. Not just. Are crazy.” Glimmer grumble’s shaking FoxFace off.

“Awwwwwwwww.” said FoxFace.

“You think that we will die don't you.” Foxy continued disappointedly.

“Kind of,  I mean, the only reason we won was everyone else died and the last of them had enough sponsors to be taken out of the games at the end. We don't have a chance, we just have to try.  I can hunt, Foxy can find a place to hide for us, and Glimmer can guard the place.” I said.  I don't know why I said Glimmer's name with agitation, but I did.

“You are just so rude!” Glimmer snapped red-faced.

Glimmer grabbed a dagger and threw it towards a target. It hit the nine-point line. Almost a bullseye. Almost.

“Ugh!” Glimmer screamed and stomped out of the gym.

I went and shot a bullseye and walked away to find Glimmer.

“Go away.”  Glimmer screamed into her pillow and picked up her dagger.

She threw her dagger.

It barely missed my head.

“Okay, okay, I'm sorry,” I said defensively.

I was about to leave when Glimmer said,

“Wait.”

“Send Foxy in.”

Glimmer lays back down exasperated.

“Fine...”  I mumbled.

“Hi, Glimmer. What you need,” said Foxy out of breath.

“I need you to slap Katniss across the face.” Glimmer said jokingly.

“Okay.” Foxy said running towards the door.

“No, no. Come over here.” Glimmer snapped, extremely agitated.

“Got it.” Foxy said after Glimmer whispered something in her ear.

“See you at dinner.” Glimmer said smiling deviously.

“Got it see you there.” Foxy said, running out of the room.

 The Chase

The next morning, I awoke to FoxFace scowling at me.  So I just buried my face in my pillow.

“What do you want!!!!” I screamed.

“Katniss, Glimmer told me to tell you that she would rather die than be in the same room as you...” she said in her I'm sorry I didn't say this I’m just the messenger so please don't kill my voice.

“Tell her that I’d like her better if she were  dead.” I snapped warningly into my pillow.

“Scram FoxFace. I’m sleeping.”

“Oh and I'm sorry...”she says in her normal cheery voice.

“For what?” I say perking my head up.

“For this…”  she said as she slapped me across the face. My cheek stung painfully. The girl has a nice slap.

“Hey!!!” I screamed.

“Bye-bye!” and she ran away.

Then I chased after Foxy mad with a candle from my nightstand in my  hand. but then all of a sudden Glimmer stops me in my tracks.

“Stop!” she yells but then I scrambled right and slipped around her.

“NO!!! SHE RUINED ME!!!” I screamed my cheek throbbing.

“You ain’t catching her. and nobody cares what you look like. You're the Mockingjay.” said Glimmer.

“I CARE!!!!!!!” I yelled.

In my mind, I knew I could but I didn’t go after FoxFace.

“Fine,” I said while acting sad. Glimmer took the candle and then went to the train cafe to order breakfast. After I thought the coast was clear I quickly darted after Foxy who was mocking me at the end of the hall.

We ran down the halls and soon I was spinning. I didn’t see Foxy. Black spots danced in front of my eyes. My head screamed and I remembered how mom used to say that we need to get up slowly or we could pass out. My stomach growled hungrily. Glimmer must have planned this or else I would have caught Foxy. I felt the world go black as I passed out.

That night at dinner I sat far away from Foxy. She smiled but I shot a glance of hatred. We sat with Effie, Gale, Cato, and Cashmere. We were pretty silent. I heard the bustle of feet outside the door.

I watched Glimmer stand. “Pardon.” She said walking away. Foxy, Cato, Cashmere, and finally Effie left too. I and Gale sat alone at the table. I felt my cheeks glow blood red as he dropped his gaze.

I poked my food before leaving. I was about to leave but I  caught a glimpse of Foxy entering the room with a wooden bat. All the doors were shut. I sat there hopelessly as she walked up behind me. I blacked out. That evil thing….
