Biography[]

Twill was a teacher, and after school let out she would work at the inspection dock of a factory where they made Peacekeeper uniforms. They intended to escape and contact other districts about the rebellion. Once District 8 started the uprising, the district appeared to be under rebel control, until the Capitol deployed Peacekeepers into District 8 "by the thousands" to take back the district. They were beaten down and defeated. As punishment as well as to regain control in District 8, the Capitol placed the district into a full lockdown state for approximately a week, with no food or coal. When they were finally allowed to go back to work, Twill and one of her students, Bonnie, were late on their way to the factory after being unable to cross a bombed street. The factory was bombed before they arrived, likely because the Capitol had received word of the rebel activity there. Although Bonnie and Twill were far enough away to survive, the explosion killed Twill's husband and Bonnie's entire family.

The two disguised themselves in the stolen Peacekeeper uniforms that Bonnie had secured earlier. Twill robbed a gun, and they boarded a boxcar headed to District 6. After fleeing the train, they traveled on foot to the woods surrounding District 12. However, Bonnie twisted her ankle there, forcing them to stop. In the woods, they met Katniss Everdeen, who was hunting. She gave them food, then taught them how to make tea and use the gun to get meat. They in turn told her their story and their goal of finding District 13. Rebels in District 8 had noticed that the Capitol always reused old footage of District 13, creating hope that it still existed, independent of the Capitol.[1]

In Mockingjay, Katniss learned that Bonnie and Twill never made it to District 13 and assumed that they died in the woods.[2]

Etymology[]

Twill refers to a type of fabric with a diagonal weave.

Trivia[]

  • Twill and Bonnie do not appear in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, evidently because the filmmakers did not want to spoil the ending of the film and the plot of Mockingjay for those who hadn't read the books. The decision to remove them is said to be the complete doing of director Francis Lawrence.[citation needed]
