Sunrise on the Reaping is the second prequel book to The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins.
It is set twenty-four years before the events of The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. The book was announced on June 6, 2024 by Scholastic Press, and set for release on March 18, 2025.

Haymitch Abernathy is a main, recurring character of The Hunger Games trilogy and is also the main protagonist of the prequel novel Sunrise on the Reaping. He is a former victor of the 50th Hunger Games (the second Quarter Quell) and serves as the mentor for Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark in the 74th and 75th Hunger Games. Haymitch is known for his sarcastic, cynical attitude and struggles with alcohol as a coping mechanism for the trauma of his past.

A Quarter Quell was a special edition of the Hunger Games that was held every twenty-five years. They marked every quarter-century anniversary of the districts' defeat by the Capitol during the Dark Days.

All known Quarter Quells were characterized by a twist in the reaping process or pool, altering the selection of tributes in some way. The 50th and 75th Hunger Games also had twists to do with their respective arenas.
