Sid Abernathy was the younger brother of Haymitch Abernathy, and their mother's second son.[2] He was 10 years old at the time of the 50th Hunger Games.[1]
Biography[]
Sid lived in the Seam of District 12 with his mother and older brother, Haymitch. He was born sometime around the 40th Hunger Games. In his childhood, his father perished in a coal mine fire.[1]
When Haymitch was sixteen,[2] he was one of four tributes reaped for the 50th Hunger Games or second Quarter Quell. Haymitch managed to lead his final opponent, a District 1 female, to the edge of the arena and use its force field to launch her own axe back at her.[3] He was subsequently crowned as District 12's second victor.[4]
Death[]
Two weeks after his victory, Sid, his mother, and Haymitch's girlfriend, Lenore Dove, were killed as punishment for his game-winning stunt, which had made the Capitol look foolish. Haymitch recounted these events to Katniss Everdeen twenty-five years later.[2]
