Philip Seymour Hoffman (July 23, 1967 – February 2, 2014) was an American actor and director. He portrayed Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2. He was in many films, including The Master, The Ides of March, Moneyball, Doubt, and Capote, where he played the title role and won the Academy Award for Best Actor. He was found dead in his Greenwich Village apartment, on February 2, 2014, due to a heroin overdose. He was also in and out of rehab before his death after a long period of sobriety.
His death did not affect the final film, as he only had "one major, emotional" scene left to film. It was announced that they would not bring him back digitally.

- Philip Seymour Hoffman had the same first and last name initials as his character Plutarch Heavensbee. Both Philip and Plutarch's initials for the their first and last name are "P.H."
- Philip shared the same birthday as his co-star Woody Harrelson, who was born six years before Philip.
