Philip Seymour Hoffman was an American actor and director. He portrayed Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2. He has been in many films, including The MasterThe Ides of March, Moneyball, Doubt, and Capote, where he played the title role and won the Academy Award for Best Actor. He was found dead in his Greenwich Village apartment, on February 2, 2014, due to a heroin overdose. He was also in and out of rehab before his death after a long period of sobriety.

His death did not affect the final film, as he only had "one major, emotional" scene left to film. It was announced that they would not bring him back digitally.
