She is Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark's first child. She has a younger brother, who is older in the film adaption. She has long dark hair like Katniss and blue eyes like Peeta. She does not know of her parents' roles in the Games, as Katniss does not yet want her to know. However, she does recognize that she'll be taught as she matures. It is also mentioned that she likes to dance in the meadow.
In Catching Fire, Peeta lied about Katniss being pregnant to try to protect her from the Games. Katniss said that she miscarried due to an electric shock in the arena. However, during the 15 years after the events of Mockingjay, Katniss became pregnant legitimately. Katniss describes terrible fear at the feeling of her daughter moving inside her during her pregnancy. The only medicine to heal this fear was finally holding her baby in her arms. At first, Katniss did not want children at all, but Peeta pined for them and she gave in. It is shown in the epilogue that Katniss truly loves her children, and loves how ignorant they are towards the Games. However, she is remorseful, knowing that someday she will need to tell her children about their parents' role in the Games and the rebellion. Their daughter already knows that they had a role in the Games, but one day, it will have to be explained in more detail.
Behind the scenes
In the films, their daughter is replaced by their son, who is Katniss and Peeta's eldest child. They have a second infant child whose gender is unknown but presumably is a girl.
- She is portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence's nephew, Theodore Lawrence.
- Her rumored name is Willow Mellark after the willows that grow in the meadow, though the child's name was never stated in the Mockingjay epilogue nor was it confirmed by the author herself. There is no citation for Katniss and Peeta's daughter's name. The only " evidence " is a girl named Jess claiming Suzanne Collins replied to her tweet. It's unknown if the person responding was Collins or if tweet even existed. Since her mother practically lived in the woods it is reasonably for her to name her daughter after a tree, willow is a tree that grows in many places, so if his mother liked willows that her daughter reminded her of a willow she could have named her Willow. The name is also reasonable since many characters in the series are named after plants.
