Jena Malone is an American singer and actress who portrayed Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2.
Career[]
Malone received her first role in 1996 for the movie @#!*% Out Of Carolina. For her role in this movie she was nominated for several awards. In 1997, Malone played in the mini TV series, Hope. For her role in Hope she was nominated for a Golden Globe for the category Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
After having several small roles, she got her first main lead role in the movie Donnie Darko. In 2005 she portrayed a role in Pride & Prejudice. A year later she made her first Broadway debut in the Tony winning play Doubt. In 2008 she starred in the horror The Ruins.
In 2023, Malone opened up about having been sexually assaulted by someone she worked with amidst filming for Mockingjay - Part 2. She went on to say that she had found healing through restorative justice, which allowed "healing and accountability and growth with the other person," who she did not name. She also added that she didn't "fully see how the criminal justice system could fully repair [her] healing."[1]

- According to director Francis Lawrence, there was some difficulty finding the right actress for Johanna before Malone auditioned, but once she did, "Jena was it": "I don’t know what was going on, I think she was in a bad mood, but Jena came in and she was so intimidating. I was scared of her. Her eyes were red and she was pacing around and she looked like she was pissed off, and her read was so great."[2]
- Before starring in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire with Donald Sutherland they previously worked together in Pride & Prejudice where Jena played one of Donald's onscreen daughters.
