Hattie Meeney was a woman from District 12 who brewed white liquor with Haymitch Abernathy.[1]
Biography[]
Hattie Meeney lived in District 12 where she brewed white liquor. The local Peacekeepers turned a blind eye to her still and stall in The Hob. She brewed the liquor in the woods outside the District, and took on the help of Haymitch Abernathy by the time he was sixteen years old. On the day of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, he met her in the woods. She assigned him more responsibility than usual and then allowed him to have a drink of the white liquor as it was his birthday. At the end of their work, she told him to go and meet his girlfriend, Lenore Dove.[1]
Following Haymitch's return and Lenore Dove's death, Haymitch drove away the people he cared about, including Hattie, for fear that they would be targeted next by President Snow.[2]
Personality and traits[]
Hattie was very hardworking, and she expected a lot from Haymitch. Despite her advanced age, she could do more than those half her age. Hattie's smile is described as "broken-toothed."[1]
Relationships[]
Haymitch Abernathy[]
Haymitch described himself as "Hattie's mule." Hattie endeared herself to Haymitch, who she was likely training to be a partner in her liquor business, by giving him tips sometimes for his work.[1]
