"My head doctor says I'm not supposed to censor my thoughts. It's part of my therapy."
Johanna Mason[src]

The District 13 head doctor is a doctor who specialized in mental health care in District 13.

Biography[]

This doctor spent his whole life in District 13.[1] Following the rebels' extraction of captured victors from the Capitol, he took on Johanna Mason as a client while she was recovering from her torture. He came by for daily sessions to help her recover, but in Johanna's estimation, he was a "complete idiot" who reminded her "at least twenty times a session" that she was "totally safe."[1] Because of his hijacking, Peeta Mellark was only treated by District 13 natives,[2] so this doctor may have been a part of his recovery team as well.

When Johanna sought discharge from the hospital, she was denied the opportunity to live alone even if she kept up daily sessions with her head doctor. Katniss attributed this to the possibility that they may have caught onto Johanna's morphling addiction and deemed her "unstable". With convincing from Katniss and Haymitch Abernathy, Johanna was approved to live in a compartment with Katniss soon after.[3]

According to Johanna, her head doctor was right about one thing: "There's no going back" to the people they were before the Hunger Games. She also quoted him as warning her against censoring her thoughts, as a part of her therapy.[3]
