The Covey are a group of nomads in Panem, famous for their musical talent and performance skills. They made their money by performing at places like The Hob.
A Covey individual's first name is taken from one of the group's traditional ballads, while their second name relates to a color, and their third name is the family name. The one exception to this rule is Lucy Gray Baird, whose first and second name both come from a ballad.
Since they were not tied to a specific location, the Covey remained neutral during the First Rebellion, siding with neither the districts nor the Capitol. After the war, they were forced to settle in the districts, with one group ending up in District 12. At the time when Coriolanus was in Peacekeeper Training, The Covey lived by The Seam, near the forest. During their wandering days, they typically stuck to the east of Panem, but also claimed to be familiar with lands to the north, beyond the control of the Capitol.[1]

- Covey is a term used to refer to a mature bird or pair of birds with a brood of young, as well as to a small flock of birds.
- The covey manner of speech is considered odd and old-fashioned by many in Panem, and they have a tendency to use many of their own idioms.
- With their nomadic lifestyle, colorful clothing, and love of music/performing, the Covey appear to be inspired by the Romani people- often referred to as "gypsies", although that term has taken on derogatory connotations.
- Since there is no mention of the Covey in The Hunger Games trilogy, presumably by that time they had fully assimilated into district culture and ceased to exist as a distinctive social group.
