"My family were Covey, first and last. Not district, not Capitol, not rebel, not Peacekeper, just us."
—Lucy Gray Baird to Coriolanus Snow[src]

The Covey are a traveling group in Panem, known for their music and performance skills. Their manner of speech is considered odd and old-fashioned by many in Panem, with a tendency to use many of their own idioms.

A Covey individual's first name is taken from a traditional ballad, while their second name relates to a color. Their third name is the family name. The only exception to this rule is Lucy Gray Baird, whose first and second name came from a ballad.

The Covey remained neutral during the First Rebellion, siding with neither the districts, nor the Capitol. After the war, they were made to settle in the districts, with one group settling in District 12. They typically stuck to the east of Panem and claimed to be familiar with the land to the north, beyond the control of Panem.[1]
