Amandla Stenberg is an American actress of mixed African-American and Danish descent who portrayed Rue in The Hunger Games film.[1] "Amandla" means "power" in Zulu, and "Stenberg" is Danish for "stone mountain."
Career[]
She made her feature film debut in 2011 in Colombiana as young Cataleya. Stenberg has been featured in dozens of commercials since the age of 4, modeling for Disney. She also appeared in the TV series Sleepy Hollow.
She began playing the violin in 2013 and singing at Los Angeles venues along with singer/songwriter Zander Hawley. The duo released their first EP in August 2015.
In 2018, Stenberg auditioned for the role of Shuri in the Marvel film Black Panther. However, she turned down the role because she believed the character should be played by a darker-skinned actress.[2] In 2017, she starred in the romantic drama Everything, Everything, and in 2018, she played the lead role in The Hate U Give,
