The 34th Hunger Games took place forty years before the events of The Hunger Games. These Games were won by Beetee Latier, the male tribute from District 3.[1]

Haymitch Abernathy was born on the day of the reaping for the 34th Hunger Games. Sixteen years later, he would compete in his own Hunger Games.[1]

Beetee Latier scavenged parts of the arena and managed to use the pieces to electrocute all of the other remaining tributes.[1]
