The answer to winning the Hunger Games is all in the saying, "May the odds be ever in your favor."
This statement is said by many people in the Hunger Games, like Caesar Flickerman, President Snow, and Effie Trinket.
In the book it's a quote that is used to mean good luck, when really if you think about it, it's about probability.
In the arena there are 24 teens, 12 boys and 12 girls. Everyone has the same probability of winning as the next. If you look at who has won the Hunger Games, there are plenty of people who have won from the poorer districts, the ones that don't train every single day of their life.
Beetee, from district three won by using his brains and electrocutes six remaining tributes. Annie Cresta won by being the only one in the arena who was able to swim well enough. It may seem the careers have more of the odds in their favor, but really they do not.
Careers, from what is described, are trained killers, and as Katniss points out in the book, they only survive because of the Cornucopia.
Katniss realizes that if she took away the food supplies and other survival suppliess, the Careers wouldn't survive very long. They are only trained to kill, not crucial survival skills, like hunting for food and knowing which plants are edible and which ones aren't.
So, if everyone is equal what does that mean for you? First, you have to realize you have a fighting chance just like everyone, then you have to find a way to increase your odds. It is known that the Cornucopia is a blood fest, so you can just increase your odds by running away from the Cornucopia, or do what Katniss did, stick to the edges of the Cornucopia. Find the closest thing, like a backpack of supplies and run for your life.
